On April 22th of each year the world celebrates the earth Day
Today is Earth Day, it is a wake-up call for how our use of oil, coal and gas is driving a global climate breakdown that violates the right to a clean and healthy environment.
This event has its origins in an oil disaster. Just over a year before the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, a rig five miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, California experienced a massive underwater blowout. Within a day, a huge oil slick covered 75 square miles of ocean.
Some of the climate change solutions are to :
- Keep fossil fuels in the ground
- Invest in renewable energy
- Switch to sustainable transport
- Help us keep our homes cosy
- Improve farming and encourage vegan diets
- Restore nature to absorb more carbon
- Protect forests like the Amazon
- Protect the oceans and in order to succeed these solutions anyone must be involved and network
