He inspired the efforts at the UN

Bujumbura, July 18th, 2025 Gako News, Blog   Mandela transformed oppression, struggle and subjugation into reconciliation, social justice and unity.

On the 16th celebration of Mandela Day, the UN SG Antonio  Guterres has recognized that
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, known as  Madiba  transformed oppression, struggle and subjugation into reconciliation, social justice and unity during his fight against Apartheid and for freedom.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela.

The Mandela Day 2025 is celebrated under the theme  It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity  and Guterres took opportunity to remind people that Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary life showed how one person can transform oppression, struggle and subjugation into reconciliation, social justice and unity.

Just as Madiba’s life was a triumph of the human spirit, his legacy is a call to rekindle our global commitment to peace, justice and human dignity, said Antonio.

The man who spent 67 years fighting for social justice, human rights and the end of Apartheid believed in the power of collective, grassroots action. He knew that ordinary people could bend the arc of history, and that lasting change started not in capitals and boardrooms, but in neighborhoods and communities, states the UN today's press release.

As the UN is celebrating its 80th anniversary, Antonio said the South African hero has inspired the UN efforts.

On this important day, the UN SG called upon people to be guided by Madiba’s lifelong commitment to freedom, justice and equality.
